This is an old recipe from a supermarket checkout cookbook called Cookies, Cookies and More Cookies Cookbook - Volume 2, Pillsbury, 1982.
STAINED GLASS COOKIES
1-1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
3 cups Pillsbury's Best All Purpose or Unbleached Flour*
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup gum drops, snipped into small pieces
In large bowl, cream sugar and margarine until light and fluffy. Blend in vanilla and eggs. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Stir in flour, soda and salt. Fold in gum drop pieces. Shape dough into two 1-1/2-inch diameter rolls. Wrap in waxed paper; chill at least 1 hour.
Heat oven to 350°F. Grease cookie sheets. With sharp knife, slice into 1/4-inch slices; place on prepared cookie sheets. Bake at 350°F. for 8 to 11 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets immediately.
5 to 6 dozen cookies.
TIPS: *Self-rising flour is not recommended.
